The NXT LVL is an ongoing multi-day concert series for new and emerging artists from the 613, presented by THINQ Music. To date, they have hosted dozens of paid shows for diverse acts, folk to metal, all across the city of Ottawa. They provided mentorship and placements for Algonquin students in the Music Industry Arts program.

Description de la philosophie de programmation et des activités

We are proud to book diverse acts from all over the 613 area code. Over half of these artists are women, POC or LGBTQ+. The genres span folk to heavy metal. The shows provide meaningful experiences for local students and are done to support as many local venues as we can partner with.

During the eligibility period, The NXT LVL delivered measurable impact across Ottawa’s music ecosystem by creating meaningful opportunities for artists, audiences, and emerging industry professionals. The program facilitated approximately 50 paid performances, ensuring artists were compensated while gaining experience in professionally run environments. Beyond the stage, The NXT LVL prioritized career development and industry access. Through partnerships with Algonquin College, more than 30 students were placed into hands-on roles in A/V, production, and marketing, allowing them to build real-world experience and industry connections. These placements often served as a first entry point into Ottawa’s live music workforce. The initiative also strengthened the local venue network by collaborating with six Ottawa spaces, helping to drive consistent programming and new audiences into rooms across the city. Notably, the launch of an all-ages music space at Steve’s Music expanded access for younger fans and performers, addressing a critical gap in the city’s live music infrastructure. Equity, diversity, and inclusion are embedded in The NXT LVL’s programming approach. Artist selection reflects a wide range of genres, backgrounds, and experience levels, with a focus on reducing barriers to participation. By creating accessible entry points for both performers and crew, the program supports a more representative and sustainable music community. Through a combination of paid opportunities, mentorship, and cross-sector collaboration, The NXT LVL has helped artists build connections, develop their craft, and engage new audiences, while contributing to the long-term growth and resilience of Ottawa’s music industry.
